Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari has said that financial inclusion is indispensable to achieve the goal of sustainable economic development through poverty reduction.
Addressing the SAARC Finance Webinar on Financial Inclusion organized by Nepal Rastra Bank, he said that the South Asian nation was still suffering from poverty.
According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, Secretary General of the SAARC Secretariat, Asala Ruwan Birkun, highlighted the state of financial inclusion in the region, noting that the SAARC Secretariat has entered the agenda of financial inclusion since 2007.
The keynote speaker, Fazle Kabir, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, spoke on the history and current state of financial inclusion in Bangladesh and the challenges of financial inclusion in the South Asian region. Governors of different countries presented working papers in the business sessions of the program.
At the conclusion of the program, Deputy Governor Chintamani Shivakoti expressed his gratitude with a brief review of the program.
