Ilam is the far eastern district of the country inhabited by people of different culture, nature living in peace. Illam is located at the foothills of Mount Kanchenjunga. We can find a large land of lush green tea plantations in Ilam and the hills covered with tea leaves are simply amazing. Every year there is greenery all around the hills of Ilm. The Alam Tea Garden, located near Ilam Bazaar, is the flagship of the Kanyam Tea Garden in Nepal, situated between the Terai Plain and Ilam Bazaar. There are many places for trekking in Ilam.

Ilam, is a small mountain town in the eastern region of Nepal, with ancient landscapes of sloping tea plantations, mountain rivers, dense natural forests, sacred sites and a unique culture. Neighboring the famous Indian hill town of Darjeeling, it is situated at the foothills of the Kanchenjunga Mountains, the third highest peak in the world. Ilam is decorated with an almost limitless range of lush green tea gardens. The hills covered with tea leaves are majestic. The dense white fog alternately descends to veil the gardens and then suddenly disappears. The hills of Ilam remain green throughout the year. The Illam Tea Garden and Kannam Tea Garden, located near the Ilam Bazaar, between the Talaiya Maidan and the Ilam Bazaar, are Nepal's major tea gardens. There are famous places in Ilm, Antu Danda: Antu Danda, which is situated at an altitude of 1677 meters in Ilam district, is famous for its unique views of Everest and Kanchenjunga. It is the best vantage point for watching sunrise and sunset. There is a motor-able road from Illam to Chhipitar from where any Antu Danda can be walked. This spectacular trekking with lush green hills takes about 3 hours. Mai Pokhari: Mai Pokhari (2,121 m), another half-hour drive from Ilam Bazar, is a small lake surrounded by a variety of flora and fauna, including ponds whose periphery is more than a kilometer. Altogether there are nine ponds in the area, some of which are sufficient for boats. Mai Pokhari is a religious and historical place in Ilam. The lake is considered to be the holy abode of Goddess Bhagwati. This place comes alive every year during 'Harishyam Ekadashi', when a night fair is held. En route to Mai Pokhari are Churghanti, Bakhout, Dharapani and Hasbir Bhanjyang villages, which offer views of snowy peaks towards the north. Various species of medicinal plants, flocks and orchids are found in the Mai Pokhari region. Rare animals such as musk deer, leopard, porcupine, jackal as well as many migratory birds and rare insects are also found in this area. Pashupatinagar, located on the northern border of Elam, is an important entry point for travelers to Sikkim, Darjeeling and Mirik. Darjeeling, a famous hill station in India, is just two hours drive from Pashupatinagar. Likewise, Kannam, en route to Ilam Bazaar, is a large tea estate that has made the Illum famous for over a hundred years. Kanyam Chai Bagh is popular among tourists for picnics, sightseeing and photography.
